ISRO Helps to Modify Railways Service By using Space Technology:Remote Sensing,GIS Technology
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to join hands with Railways for modifying the Services by Using space technology in remote sensing and graphic information System (GIS) based applications.
For this,An MoU will be signed between Railways and ISRO,under the Department of Space,Thursday for developing applications in the field of remote sensing and GIS.
Under this MoU,ISRO Will modify Railways services by providing the passengers information for all trains, indicating next station/Stoppage,real-time tracking of train,Survey of all new-train routes in the diverse areas and also in difficult terrains particularly in hilly areas.
With this Now engineers can easily find the problems or damages in Tracks as it will help in conducting track vulnerability studies.
Many more modifications are also included like mapping of assets, providing audio and video warning to road users at unmanned level crossing gates and there is introduction of web-enabled rail user-centric services also.
Presently,Railways is using space technology for providing connectivity to Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters and unreserved ticketing system at remote and non-rail head locations.
This technology is also used in emergency conditions like at the time of disasters the technology provide easy access to communicate with others stations using satellites phones.
Also Global Positioning System (GPS) is used for various applications like remote monitoring of locomotives, passenger information system in Mumbai suburban trains and synchronised clocks and WiFi facility in selective Rajdhani Express trains.
