INS Tarasa is the Trinkat Class Patrol Vessel in Indian Navy.It is third patrol Class vessel in Trinkat Class followed by INS Trinkat and INS Tillanchang.
INS Tarasa was commissioned in 24 August 2001.It is also called Water Jet Fast Attack Craft.The Indian Navy Launched INS Tarasa the Fourth Follow-on Water Jet Fast Attack Craft on 30th June 2016 at a ceremony in Kolkata.
Discription and Role
INS Tarasa,The Trinkat Class patrol Vessels were designed and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.
The INS Tarasa carry out fisheries protection, anti-poaching, counter-insurgency and search-and-rescue operations in coastal areas and in the exclusive economic zone. The vessels of the class are named after islands from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands or the Lakshadweep Islands.
It also features improved stealth,networking capabilities and can intercept fast-moving surface craft in different operations.
Specification,Engine and Performance
The INS Tarasa, Water Jet Fast Attack Craft aims to transform Indian Naval littoral operations by combining speed and agility in the 160-foot vessel.
Trinkat Class patrol Vessels has a displacement of 260 ton with 46 m in length and 7.5m beam length.
The ship is powered with 2X MTU Engines capable of generating 3,500 hp each and 3X 80 KW diesel generators.The ship can complement total of 33 crew and can have a speed of 30 kn (56 km/h,35 mph).
The INS Tarasa is armed with 1X 2A42 Medak 30 mm gun.The gun is gyro stabilized and is directed by electro-optic fire control system (FCS) of Bharat Electronic LTD make for day and night use, mounted on an improvised cupola. It can also be remotely operated.
