INS Kochi Kolkata-Class Indigenous Made Warship,Destroyer,Indian Navy
INS Kochi is the second Indian Navy kolkata class Destroyer.It is the India’s largest indigenous made warship designed by the Navy’s in-house organisation, directorate of naval design, and it is constructed by Mazagon Dock Ship builders Ltd in Mumbai.
It has undergone sea trails and has been commissioned in Indian Navy on 30 September 2015. INS Kochi is the second ship of the Kolkata-class (Project 15A) Guided Missile Destroyers.THE ship will deploy in the Indian Ocean regions and perform its duty of safe-guarding maritime interests and protecting the coasts.
The project of INS kochi was laid down in 25 october 2005.After that the warship was launched on 18 September 2009 by Madhulika verma,wife of Chief of naval Staff,Admiral Nirmal kumar verma. Mazagon Docks used a “pontoon assisted” launching method in which pontoons are welded to the hull, which give buoyancy and helps overcome tidal constraints. Mazagon plans to use this method for all future ship launches, as the process makes it possible to launch ships with much higher weight.
And Later on 30 September 2015, the largest-ever warship to be built in India, was commissioned by defence minister Manohar Parrikar at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
The first of this class, INS Kolkata, was commissioned in August last year.The third warship, INS Chennai, will be inducted towards end-2016.
The Indian Navy has plans to become a 200-warship force with around 600 aircraft and helicopters by 2027 to ensure it can effectively guard the country’s expanding geo-strategic interests.
The ship incorporates new design concepts for improved survivability, stealth, seakeeping and manoeuvrability.INS has displacement of 7,500 tons and it is 163 m long and has beam length 17.4 m.
The ship has built with special shaping hull and radar-transparent deck fittings is order to achieved advanced stealth features.For enhancing the sonar acoustic performance there is the introduction of sonar dome mounted on the The forward part of ship/hull or on Bow. It is the second of its kind in an indigenous naval platform.
The Ship has a complement of about 40 officers and 350 sailors.
Engine , Performance and Electronic Warfare
INS Kochi the Kolkata class warship is propelled by Four Gas turbines .It can achieved the maximum speed of 30 kn (56 km/h).
THE Electronic warfare and decoys systems includes Elbit Systems Deseaver MK II countermeasures system and Defensive aids suite 1.
INS Kochi is equipped by Advanced BEL Electronic Modular Command & Control Applications (EMMCCA Mk 4) combat management system.It also incorporated with Thales LW-08 D-band air search radar,IAI EL/M-2248 MF-STAR(Threat Alert Radar) S-Band AESA Multi-Function Radar and IAI EL/M-2238 L-band Star surveillance radar.There are two sonar integrated;BEL HUMSA-NG Bow sonar and BEL Nagin active towed array sonar.
INS Kochi is packed with an array of state-of-the-art weapons. INS Kochi’s anti-submarine arsenal consists of Indigenous Rocket Launchers (IRL), Indigenous 4x Twin-tube Torpedo Launchers (ITTL) ,2 x antisubmarine rockets and bow-mounted new generation HUMSA Sonar Dome which makes it totally a destroyer.
The ship includes a 4 x 8-cell vertical launch missile system (total of 32) for long distance engagement of shore and sea-based targets.
The Ship is also armed with Anti-Air Barak 8 missiles which designed to defend any type of airborne threat including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, and UAVs as well as cruise missiles and combat jets.
There are also 16 Brahmos supersonic Anti-Ship missiles armed with INS Kochi.
INS Kochi has 76 mm Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) and AK 630 Close In Weapon System (CIWS) designed to take on air and surface targets.

The INS kochi is equipped to operate two Sea king Medium Lift Transport/utility helicopter or HAL Dhruv Multirole Utility helicopter or Both 1 x 1.
