Dornier Do 228 STOL Utility Aircraft,HAL,Indian Airforce Strength

The Donier DO 228 is a twin-Turboprop Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) Utility aircraft manufactured by Dornier GmbH from 1981 until 1998.In 1983,Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) bought a production licence and manufactured 125 aircraft for the Asian market sphere.

More than 270 Do 228 were built Oberpfaffenhofen,Germany and kanpur,India.In August 2006,127 Dornier DO 228 aircraft remain in airline service.

Indian AirForce and Indian Coast Guard are the Primary users of the Do 228.Currently 40 aircrafts are in service and 14 more ordered in February 2015.

Dornier New Generation

Dornier New Generation same aircraft with improved technologies and performances was build by RUAG in Germany by 2009 with the Fuselage,wings and tail unit manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Kanpur India and transported to Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, where RUAG Aviation carries out aircraft final assembly, customized equipment installation, product conformity inspection and aircraft delivery.

The main changes from the previous Dornier 228-212 model are a new five-blade propeller made of composite material, more powerful engines and an advanced glass cockpit featuring electronic instrument displays..

Induction in Indian Airforce

In October 2014, HAL announced that it has received an Indian Navy order for 12 Do-228 aircraft maritime surveillance and patrol aircraft worth about Rupees 1600 crores,and a few months later in February 2015, it announced that receiving an Indian Air Force order for 14 Do-228 aircraft worth about Rupees 1090 crores including six engines and a simulator.Donier1

Design

The aircraft has a length of 16.56 m ,height of 4.86 m and wingspan of 16.97m.The aircraft has crew capacity of two pilots with 19 passengers.The aircraft has a payload capacity of 2,340 kg freight.

Engine and Performance

Dornier Do 228 aircraft is powered by 2 x ¬†Garrett AiResearch TPE-331-5-252D turboprop engine rated at 578 kW.The engines are propelled by 4×2 HC-B4TN-5ML/LT10574 Propellers(4 per engine) of Diameter 105 in.The aircraft has empty weight of 3,739 kg and maximum takeoff weight of 6400 kg.

With the 2,340 Kg payload the aircraft can cruise with the maximum speed of 223 Knots .The average cruise speed of airvraft is 190 knots at approximately 15 degree C temperature with 85% torque.The maximum range of Do 228 with full payload is 1,111 km .The rate of climb is 7.5 m/s and service ceiling is 8,535 m.
